FAQ's
-
What are IC&RC Member Boards?
Each certifying board affiliated with IC&RC has applied
for and has been approved for membership and is referred to
as a “Member Board.” For approval, a board
must document the standards for reciprocal certification and
meet IC&RC requirements.
-
How do I find a certification board in my area?
A listing of all IC&RC member boards is
available on the Member Boards list or by calling the IC&RC
Office. If there is no board in your area, contact IC&RC staff to identify available options.
-
What is an International Certificate?
The international certificate is an additional certificate
available to certified professionals holding a reciprocal credential
with an IC&RC member board. It recognizes the international
scope of an IC&RC credential that extends beyond the member’s
current locale to the global network of the IC&RC Member
Boards and communities. A certificate is available for
each of the reciprocal credentials offered through IC&RC.
-
What is Reciprocity?
Reciprocity is the transfer of an IC&RC credential from
one jurisdiction (state, country, nation) to another usually
without having to retest. Due to changing laws
and licensing requirements, reciprocity may have conditions
that will have to be met by the certified professional in order
to work in a particular jurisdiction. Certified professionals
are encouraged to contact the
Member Board in the jurisdiction
to which they are relocating to inquire about specific requirements
for working in the alcohol and other drug abuse field.
-
Does the IC&RC certify directly?
No, IC&RC is a not-for-profit voluntary membership organization
comprised of certifying boards involved in credentialing addiction
professionals. IC&RC Member Boards utilize standards
that meet the reciprocal level requirements and IC&RC
examinations to certify in a respective jurisdiction.
-
How many times are the IC&RC exams administered annually?
There are four administrations available to member boards
each year. Paper & Pencil exam dates are generally the second full
weekend in March, June, September and December.
The oral exam dates are scheduled by each individual board.
Computer Based Testing (CBT) may also be available in your area.
