Elimination of the CPM (Oral Exam)
In April 2007, the IC&RC Board of
Directors voted to eliminate the use of the Case Presentation Method
(CPM). The CPM was an oral exam and a component of the Alcohol and
Other Drug Abuse Counselor (AODA) and Advanced Alcohol and Other
Drug Abuse Counselor (AAODA) Certifications.
Effective June 2008 the AODA and AAODA
written examinations will reflect updates to include the
competencies that the oral exam tested. The AODA exam will
incorporate a case study vignette with thirteen questions pertaining
to the case. The AAODA exam will incorporate several scenarios.
The AODA exam will still consist of 150 questions, and the AAODA
will still consist of 175 questions. Both exams remain 3 ½ hours
long.
Although the IC&RC will no longer require
the CPM oral exam process as one of its requirements, some of our
Member Boards will continue to use this exam. Please check with
your local Member Board to determine whether or not your will be
required to take and pass the CPM for the AODA or AAODA
certifications.

IC&RC Office.
